The Running Room officially cut the ribbon on its new store in Red Deer tonight.
All the RR bigwigs were in the city to mark the occasion. Mr. John Stanton, RR founder, gave a wonderful motivational speech before he lead us on a 5 km fun run.
I met John previously in Grande Prairie. He was in the Swan City to promote the Fallen Four Marathon (Mayerthorpe to Whitecourt). He’s such a nice man. We chatted a bit about the New York Marathon which happens to be John’s favorite race.
The money raised from tonight’s event went to the Fill the Kettle, the Salvation Army fundraising campaign.
There was no entry fee. Runners either donated online or on site.
There were probably 300 people running. That’s a great turnout. I hope we raised lots of cash.
I’m really excited because my pal, Lori is the RR manager. She is all kinds of crazy. That’s hard to beat in a runner (somewhat). Lori moved back to Red Deer this summer from Grande Prairie. I haven’t seen her much this summer. But now I know where she works, I will see her all the time!
Actually I am pretty excited about the Wednesday and Sunday group runs. I really need some support to get out on the trails this winter.
Tonight’s run was challenging. I didn’t wear my Garmin. I was huffing and puffing throughout so I know I pushed myself.
That’s exactly what I needed to kickstart my winter running.
I feel so good. My left leg did not scream once. I’m nearly healed! Whoot hoot!
