Running in a winter wonderland

I have one blue toenail. No, I didn’t paint it. I never paint my toenails. I am hardcore runner (said in a hardcore baritone voice while pounding on my Garmin).
I am surprised I don’t have more war wounds from New York. If you have been reading this blog for awhile, you will know all about my Death Race training purple toes. Of course, my left leg is still a little wonky. When I was in Ottawa, Lucy mentioned something about taekwondo. Then it clicked. This is the same leg I hurt while training (or more precisely showing off). Guess I will have to take it a little easy for a bit longer.
With that in mind, I went for a 10 km run on the snowy trails. Winter has officially arrived in Central Alberta. Forget that it’s only November. There’s at least a few feet of snow on the ground.
Call me a dork but I love my winter running attire. I love my balaclava. I love my longjohns. I love my mitts. I love layering. I just love it all.
Carleigh and I used to run all the time together when she was training for her half-marathon. I remember a lot of cold and early Sunday mornings. I am really excited because Carleigh and her sidekick, Jon, will run the Hypothermic Half-Marathon with me in Edmonton in February. Carleigh hasn’t run in months and months. She’s been too busy cycling and making out with her boyfriend. I am glad she has come back to the running side.
So back to my run …. it was nice. The trails were quiet. Running is so nice in the winter. Provided you are dressed properly, running in the sub zeroes temperatures can be a wonderful experience. You should try it.

No Bread Rule Update:

Day 2 has gone well. I haven’t sneaked a peek at my toaster in hours. Earlier today, I took her out just to gaze at her metal beauty. This lasted about 15 minutes until I snapped out of my madness.
