I finally made the 7-hour drive to Red Deer yesterday. After weeks of anticipation and secrecy, I finally made the big move. It was bloody cold when I started out. Blistering snow blanketed the roads and winds were gusting. I had to drive carefully. Just outside of Whitecourt, though I had the fight of my life. I lost control of my Versa and I spinned in a complete circle.
I don’t know if it was just a patch of ice and the wind that caused me to lose control. Fortunately I was on the divided highway bit and there was nobody in front and behind me. It all happened so quickly. I envisioned my car upside down and I willed it to stop right before it hit the barrier.
It was one of the scariest moments that I can remember. Of course, I had no cell reception. I slowed down significantly. I don’t think I was going to fast to begin with. I regrouped in Whitecourt at Subway.
The roads were better after Whitecourt. I made it to Red Deer in record time.
I explored a little yesterday afternoon. I was pretty bagged after the drive.
