This week just flew by. I can’t believe it’s Saturday morning already. I had a long Friday. It was mostly my fault because I took a super long time to write one epic piece for the newspaper. Worth it though. I am sure it will win awards from far and wide…. ha!
Tiffany and I ran our first winter run yesterday afternoon. We weren’t exactly convinced of the reported temperature. It was either -19 or -20 and -28 with the wind chill. An electronic sign we ran past read -10 but we know that was not true.
Simply put it was plain cold.
Starting the run off on an note, Tiffany fell in a sink hole. At the time it wasn’t funny. And I probably shouldn’t chuckle but…. Thankfully she wasn’t hurt.
It wasn’t as slippery as we thought it would be. We stayed on the snowy bits of the sidewalks. The more we ran, the more confident we were in our steps.
We ran from Beancounters, along Resources Road until we hit Wedgewood (5k) and turned around. We didn’t want to run more than hour because we knew we had to break in our winter running bodies.
I dressed just right. Tiffany may have overdressed. We both wore our balaclavas making it challenging to talk. It is so important to keep your face covered when there is a windchill or simply when it’s so cold out. Don’t want frostbite.
We both felt great after the 10k. I think Tiffany is hooked. If I remember correctly, Tiffany said she started running two years ago in the winter. But last year she ran inside. Not so much anymore! Tiffany and I signed up for Calgary’s Hypothermic Half-Marathon in February. Next I am going to convince Wendy and Carleigh.
Stay tuned.
