hooked on a feeling, high on believing

I am hooked. I have a new addiction and I am dragging someone down with me.

It started innocent enough. I’d catch a little bit here and a little bit there. Soon I was checking to see what new fix I could get.

It’s been about three weeks and I am not giving up my dirty little secret. And as I write this, you will know my shame and it will no longer be hidden.

I am addicted to reality TV shows. It started with American Idol and now has progressed to Survivor, Amazing Race and now Celebrity Apprentice. I know what you’re thinking – yeah, so?

Obviously you don’t know me. I don’t watch TV. And when I do it’s flicked to either Sportsnet, TSN or the news channels. (Okay I admit to rushing home to catch the Young and the Restless, and catching the odd Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives or Lost episodes.)

You won’t catch me watching the Bachelor though. Lame and lame.

Because I want to deflect my insanity, I have pulled Damien into my den of bad television. He came willing. The first time I said “come over American Idol is on” he hesitantly came. Now he knows all the names of the hopefuls.

Celebrity Apprentice debuted last week. I watched it by myself and it wasn’t the same. This week, Damien came over for the second episode. He’s hooked.

Now before you get the wrong idea, our TV nights are like this:

With remote in hand, I sit on the large couch.

Damien comes in. He grabs a beer out of the fridge and gets comfy on the small couch.

American Idol: We laugh and make fun of the singers (because we are so much better).

Celebrity Apprentice: We laugh at Tom Green and the funny little gay man

Damien checks his watch. Time to go. See you at work, tomorrow.

I might be pushing it if I text Damien now to let him know the season premier of Dancing with the Stars is on in 20 minutes!
