And you thought you could get away

The all-knowing Google has added a new feature that allows users to share their locations among a chosen network of friends.
In plain terms, the opt-in service uses data from mobile phones to find a person’s location.

I don’t really understand how it works but I do understand you can switch off the feature on your phone. Also, the program is not compatible with all cellphones.

This from Google:

“The new software released Wednesday will enable people with mobile phones and other wireless devices to automatically share their whereabouts with family and friends.
The feature, dubbed “Latitude,” expands upon a tool introduced in 2007 to allow mobile phone users to check their own location on a Google map with the press of a button.
“This adds a social flavor to Google maps and makes it more fun,” said Steve Lee, a Google product manager.

Honestly, I don’t know if fun is the right word. Maybe the correct word would be “scary.”

Oh how Big Brother keeps getting closer.
