I am not listening to Christmas music

I can’t remember the last time I bought a book in Canada. When I was in Korea, I bought books every week. Because there were no english libraries, we in the foreign community would trade books amongst ourselves. I remember when I left for Hong Kong, I had close to 50 books to distribute to my friends.

Now that I am living and working for a pittance in Canada, I can’t afford to buy books on a whim. Grande Prairie has an okay library too so I am able to borrow what I want. Unfortunately working for a living has its drawbacks. I had to cut back on my reading time. I am a fast reader I am still able to read a few books a week when I make the time. Therein is the problem. Lately I am not making the time. I haven’t read a book in about a month. Sure I have read lots of magazines and online articles but no novels.

As a journalist, it is so important to read. How else can you improve your skill, if you read the words of others.

I went to the bookstore today and wandered around. I picked up, The Daily Planet Book of Cool Ideas by Jay Ingram. You may know him as the Canadian broadcaster who took over for David Suzuki on Quirks and Quarks and as host of the Daily Planet on the Discovery channel. For a science dude, he’s pretty cool.

The book will keep me occupied for a bit. I will go to the library tomorrow to pick out a few books to read on the weekend.
