Asking for simple directions has never been harder. If you want directions you have to ask at least four people to find your way. A couple I met were screwed around by an autorickshaw driver who said the train station was closed. He wanted to take my friends to a tour agency, where the driver would receive a hefty commission. They didn’t believe him. He even pulled over and asked a pedestrian, who was part of the scam, if the train station was open. The man agreed that it was closed. After much argument and hassle, luckily they reached their destination.

That’s why I rarely ask for directions and I don’t trust anyone who approaches me. The better English the person speaks, the more likely he’s out to scam you. That’s my reasoning.
