Random pics from around Mumbai

Caught you! In Bandra, while Sonalee and Maneka were haggling over prices, I could see these two guys staring at me from the corner of my eye. So I grabbed my camera and started taking their pictures. They didn’t look amused. This guy came closer so I took it as a sign he liked having his picture taken.

Apartment buildings in the same complex are called societies here. I think it’s another word for community. Areas are separated by sections. These busdrivers work in Section 14. Sonalee lives in section 19. I took a nice walk one day through the sections. These men were pretty happy to have their pics taken. You can see that the guy on the end was really proud as he puts out his chest.

Most middle caste Indians have maids who come twice a day everyday. That’s right. Twice a day, seven days a week. They cook, clean and whatever needs to be done. Most of them are probably illegal and accordingly they get paid very little. Here’s Sonalee’s maid. I think she’s really cute. She doesn’t speak English but I think she appreciated my “thank yous”.

Workers restoring a section of Elephanta Just walking around the island for half an hour was enough for me to break out in a sweat. I can just imagine what these men felt like. They have a lot of work ahead of them as the government is planning to restore larger sections of this world heritage site.
