I feel so drained and dehydrated. Today I went to see the doctor in Hwamyeong for my one week check up. I’m sick of taking cabs everywhere so I opted to take the subway. Walking down the corridor from Lotte to the Seomyeon station was no easy feat. Literally, it was all downhill and downstairs from there. Walking required so much energy with this cast that I was out of breath before even getting on the subway. Luckily I scored a seat on the subway so I had time to recuperate from all that exertion. Then when I made it to the doctor’s office, it was closed for lunch hour.
After deciding to eat lunch myself, I went back to the office and sat down and waited. In the office, there is a huge screen on the wall which doubles as a tv and a waiting list to see the doctor. Actually it is quite cool to see your name move up the list as the doctors see their patients. I wonder if we have this technology in Canada yet. It beats having to ask the medical secretaries how many people are in line ahead of you. I only had to wait for a few short minutes though.
This time a different doctor saw me than the one I initially saw last week. He asked me if I spoke Korean and I realized I didn’t bring my dictionary. So I phoned the school and got one of the Korean teachers to translate for me. The good news is that I don’t have to have surgery. The bad news is I have to keep the cast on for another three weeks, and that I have to go back each week to get an Xray. Personally I don’t think it is necessary to go every week to check the healing process. Today the doctor said it was healing properly, so I don’t think between now and seven days the change will be that significant. So I’ll return in two weeks, not one. In truth, I would go every week if the doctor’s office was in Seomyeon not Hwamyeong. It’s such a hassle to go to Hwamyeong with a big, green cast on your leg.
