Did the Game Changers get it wrong? Nope.

I didn’t eat any meat when I started running. Nachos and beer were my recovery meals after my strenuous 5K run. I was awesome. Let me tell you something, I became an even more awesome runner when I began paying better attention to what I put in my diet.

I wanted to be a healthier runner so I cleaned up my diet – more plants and less processed crap. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t have any health issues but I wasn’t making the connection between what I put in my body and how I felt or moved. I knew I could do better at life.

And the more I ran, the better my diet became.

Real talk. It’s 2019. How are you not vegan or at least plant-based yet?

The Game Changers

A few weeks ago Netflix began streaming The Game Changers, the smash hit documentary, which delves into the connection meat, protein and strength. It explores the benefits of eating plants for athletes. Heavy hitters James Cameron, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jackie Chan are part the project.

A former UFC fighter James Wilks talks with elite athletes who follow plant-based diets. Namely Scott Jurek, who you will likely recognize as an ultrarunner and author of Eat & Run.

Finally a different perspective on eating a vegan/plant-based/vegetarian. After Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead, Forks Over Knives, Cowspiracy and everything in between, we were ready for something new. I can watch all the documentaries and movies about becoming vegan and plant based. But it’s like preaching to the choir.

Even if you are only veg-curious, I encourage you to check it out on Netflix I know you have time on your hands. Watch with an open mind and forget what you believe, you know about protein. Listen to the real life stories from top athletes from around the world. Guys check out Kedderick Farris on Instagram. Then tell me you cannot succeed on a plant-based diet.

Please listen to the science and research. This is not ‘fake news.’

Critics and the skeptics have come out of the woodwork to challenge and to debunk the film. There’s a ton of videos on YouTube and articles on the web dedicated to poking holes into the research. My favourite response video has been from Ryan on Happy Healthy Vegan. Check it out below.

  1. I stopped eating meat this year, not technically veg yet since I’m still eating fish – it’s a process. The difference in my stomach/digestion is crazy, I had no idea it would help to that extent. Shame I gained 30 lbs before all this right enough. Thanks for the recipe link 🙂
