I think running in my old shoes has finally caught caught up to me. Truth be told I have several old shoes that I have been wearing in rotation in hopes this method would prolong the life of the sneakers.
It worked for awhile until I could feel every step on the asphalt or the hard ground. Not fun. I knew I had to do something about it because soon I will be racking up the kilometres.
Last week I went to Gord’s Running Store and picked up a pair of road and trail shoes. I tried The Tech Shop, close to where I live, but they didn’t carry any of the brands I usually wear.
I went with the Kinvara 10 for the road. As much as I like to run on trails, I know there are days when my only choice is asphalt so I had to buy a road pair. I have always like Saucony so I was happy they had a pair in my size.
So far, so good. I have run close to 60 kilometres in them to date. It’s like night and day. I no longer feel my feet pounding the asphalt. Yup. I definitely waited too long between buying shoes.
I have been wearing Altra Timp for the last year. The store was out of stock in my size so I went with the Lone Peak 4. I was too impatient to wait for the shoes to come in.
It’s been snowing and storming in Calgary and area for the better part of two weeks. Therefore I have been sticking to the paved trails in Calgary. I haven’t worn my new Altras yet. I didn’t see the point in wearing them on asphalt or on snowy paths.
I ran along the Bow River today. I started at Edworthy Park and turned around at the Reconciliation Bridge. Chilly to start, I was very warm by the time I hit about five kilometres. Great to see so many people out and about. In fact, I crossed a race and a walk along the trails.
It was a good run. I’m definitely making some gains on the endurance front. Next weekend I definitely have to run longer. I’m crossing my fingers that there will be no more random blasts of winter.
