I feel like my hard work at the gym is starting to pay off. I am beginning to see some muscle poke through my fluffy upper body. It’s amazing what your body remembers.
When I stopped Crossfit and hot yoga, I basically threw in the towel on strength training. Sure I joined GoodLife Fitness but it was something to do when it was too cold to run outside or whatever. I’ve been training quite consistently now that I hate when I miss a session.
Yesterday I asked if I could have a trainer show me how to use these yellow machines at the gym. There’s a bunch of old school ones that I believe were used when the space was a Gold’s Gym. The manager calls me today and invites me in for a chat. It was like I was being sent to the principal’s office.
Next thing I know I have signed up for a “lifechanger” session where your BMI, lung capacity etc is assessed, and six one-hour personal training sessions. What have I gotten myself into?
Actually I think it will be great to have some sort of direction. Although I pretty good at creating my own programs, I probably could work a little harder. Bring on the drill sergeants. I got to tell you, I work harder when someone is screaming at me. Thankfully all the ‘new year resolutioners’ have sorted out their stuff, and it’s not as busy as it was in January.
I’ve been splitting my gym time between Deerfoot (lunch) and Northland (evenings). My training at Northland is always much better because I am not as rushed. I may try heading to Deerfoot immediately after work since I am finishing earlier these days.
I tried something new to me – the stairclimber. It’s awesome. The first time I used it, I was sweating buckets. The next couple times weren’t as sweaty. I’m not sure what I am doing wrong. The first time there was a guy next to me in a garbage bag who was trying to sweat off a few pounds. (Good luck to you, sir.) He set up the machine for me and correctly guessed my weight. He told me if I kept doing the stairclimber I would be down to 100 pounds.
Moving on …. I don’t actually want to lose 40 pounds. I’ve been doing 15 minutes after my upper body training and on days I don’t run. It’s been a great ass kicker at the end of the workout.
In case you were wondering, I am still doing the high-volume back workout. Except I have reduced the number of reps and because I am too weak I skip the one-arm pull ups.
I love all the exercises in this workout. There’s so many options when the machines or free weights are in use. Training back is awesome. I can definitely see some gains in this area. I am looking forward to having someone check my form. I am also hoping the trainer can help me with some options for my chest. I’m not sure I am working as hard as I could be in this area.
It’s all good. I am trusting the process.
