I am slowly getting to know the trails in Calgary. Right now it’s a bit of a challenge because I can only really explore on Friday afternoons and on the weekends. Just like when driving … I like to see where I am going. Thankfully the days are getting longer.
On Saturday I ran to the Bow River Parkway from Bowmont Natural Environment Park in northwest Calgary. I ran here last week and I thought I would run a little further. It was super cold when I started. I really had to hype myself up to get out for a 10K.
I asked a women who was out walking if there were trails in such a direction. She told me there would be lots of “ups and downs.” I told her I was OK with that. I just wanted to see a little more of the area.
I was glad I did. By the time I was finished, it had warmed up significantly. I even stopped a woman who was walking and asked her to put my gloves in my pack. Thank you, random person.
I am one of those runners who actually has to run somewhere before the trails make sense. I can look at a map all day and still be confused until I actually in the area.
I wish I had more time to run but I had to be an at event that evening. I was so happy to get outside in the daylight hours. I am crossing my fingers for solid weather and sunshine on Friday so I can get in a good long run. Lately I have only been running between 5K and 10K. It’s really not cutting it.
I only really feel like I am ‘in training’ when I get in those double digits. I feel a little off so to speak. My body craves these longer distances and time on feet. This is the longest stretch that I have gone without doing long runs or running super consistently in years.
This downtime has really been good for me. I love running and I am excited to get back into full-on training with a schedule. Moving to another city also helps.
Who doesn’t love new trails?
