RWR Picks #1: Household Name, The Dorito Effect and Redefining Strength

We are bombarded with information every second of the day, enough to overload our already stressed minds and body. This modern life sure is great but it can be taxing to stay up-to-date on what’s happening in the world around you.

If you are like me, you are a life-long learner and you love to hear different perspectives and to be challenged by your beliefs.

To make it easier for you to find new things/ideas/information , I am introducing a new series on my website … RWR Recommends. Sure you could just go on the Top 10 lists but isn’t it more fun to get recommendations from a real person?

Every week I will document what I’m loving this week or what I found particularly interesting or noteworthy. From suggested podcasts, YouTube channels to viral videos, books and new stories, I will have you covered.

Play That Podcast

My colleague Jennifer and I bonded over our love of podcasts. (In fact Jennifer hosts Full of Fibre podcast, with her husband Chad.) She recommended the Business Insider‘s Household Name. If you like the what/why behind the thing, this podcast is for you.

Learn the stories behind some of the biggest “household names.” Not only will you have some useless trivia, you’ll be able to wow your friends in your next game of Trivia Pursuit.

Subscribe To This YouTube Channel

I am completely obsessed with Redefining Strength’s YouTube channel. I found the channel from a recommendation in a Facebook group. I can’t stop watching the videos. I bought resistance bands a few months ago. I have no idea what I’m doing with them or why I should be using them.

I see A LOT of people using them on Instagram and in the gym. Cori answers all these questions and more in her detailed and science-based videos. They are simple, to-the-point and most important – not boring. The videos are especially great if you’re not working with a coach and you’re doing your own thing at the gym. You can also download an app for Android and Apple and sign up for a free two-week trial.

Read This Book

I guarantee you that you will never look at a Dorito the same way again after reading The Dorito Effect. I know you probably don’t need a book to tell you that food has changed over the last 20 or 30 years. This great book by Mark Schatzker explains what happened, cravings and why we choose one food over another. Fascinating stuff!

I first heard about this book on The Model Health Show, one of my favourite podcasts. I’ve included the podcast below for your listening pleasure. Pick this book up if you are interested in your health and what you put in your body. Some things may surprise, others not so much.

Final Words

Please let me know in the comments below if you like this new series. As well I would love to hear what you’re reading or listening to. I will leave you with some food for thought.
