Weekend get away

I took a break from reality and escaped to cottage country. (Well not exactly cottage country. It was a summer village north of Onoway.) I met Carleigh and Jon for a weekend filled with good conversation and company. While I packed my running gear, I wasn’t tempted to run. I wanted to soak in the quiet and spend time with old friends.

The province-wide fire ban was still in place so we enjoyed a barbecue on Friday night. I was pleasantly surprised with the burgers – I am so picky. This brand had a dash of onion powder. Carleigh unsuccessfully tried to keep me from reading the ingredients on the package.

We went kayaking on the lake on Saturday morning. Foxy came along for the ride. Even though my kayaking skills need a little work, I had a lot of fun. There’s a really old bible camp across the lake. We didn’t paddle too close (because I have this fear that they would know we were sinners and start throwing tomatoes at us or something like that).

We ate so much food this weekend. Carleigh whipped up this yum rice, greens and tofu dish in her cast iron skillet. We also drank a lot of wine and beer and played random geography trivia games. I may need to stop eating for a month to undo the damage.

weekendAren’t we cute? It’s fun to get away and not think about running or training. I think my body and soul needed the time away to be with good people. I wish their cabin wasn’t three hours away or I’d be there more often. They are doing a lot of renos so it will be fun to see the progress in a couple of months.

How was your weekend?
