Blackfalds to Lacombe

Run for it: Blackfalds to Lacombe

I met Shannon to run the Blackfalds to Lacombe trail on Saturday. I haven’t been on this path in more than a year. The last time I ran it was either with Shannon or John Jenkins.

It’s been so long and it’s a shame because it is a beautiful, well-maintained trail.

Thankfully Shannon drove because I couldn’t remember where the trailhead started. It all came back to me once we hit the dirt road. I am a little bit loopy when it comes to directions. Thank goodness for GPS. I found this map online too, if you’re interested in checking out the trail.

Blackfalds to LacombeI haven’t seen Shannon in ages. We ran together a couple of weeks ago. It’s funny because she’s in my neighbourhood too. It’s weird how you lose touch with people and suddenly re-connect and pick up where you left off. She’s good people. Check out her smiling, happy face on Instagram

Blackfalds to LacombeShannon is training for Woody’s half-marathon next month. I have no doubt she will run a strong race. It was fun chatting and goofing around. We made tentative plans to run Wednesday morning before work. I would love to be a morning runner but I have been loving my sleep lately.

Blackfalds to LacombeWhile my hands were freaking cold, it was a perfect day for running. Look how strong my legs look in this picture. We didn’t see anyone else on the trail save for one or two cyclists. The silence was eerie.

Blackfalds to LacombeI stood on the road and pointed my iPhone to snap this pic. Don’t you just love her pink tights? The route is paved and it passes a nice pond/lake. I appreciate the well-maintained (and always open) washrooms.

Blackfalds to LacombeThis is my obligatory slow picture. I take the same photo every time I run here. Silly? Yes.

Great day for company on the run. We turned this otherwise gloomy day to one filled with laughter and running. You cannot beat that.

Happy trails.

  1. It’s awesome that you have access to this Trans Canada Trail. I’d run it too! The closest thing I have to this is the Bruce Trail that goes through Niagara and up the escarpment to Tobemory! It’s not paved though, it’s more like a hiking trail.

That sounds much better. My body prefers hiking trails!

Do it. It’s a nice change from the Red Deer trails.

  2. Lacombe is an awesome little town! I hadn’t known there was a section of the transcanada trail through there.

Yes it only recently – in the last few years – paved. It’s really nice.
