Just call me four eyes.
I went to Edmonton on Saturday to get a Lasik consult on my eyes. It turns out my corneas are too thin for the procedure. I don’t know why but I had a feeling that I would not be a candidate. My prescription is on the high-end so it looks like I will be stuck wearing contacts and glasses.
I may be a candidate for this other procedure called PRK. The head eye doctor at the clinic has to look at my file to determine if I make the cut. I am not sure I want to go down that road because it sounds riskier. The eye surgeon is expected to call me this coming week.
I am a little sad. I have worn glasses since I was 14 years old. In fact all the women in my family wear glasses. My dream is to be able to open my eyes in the morning and see the writing on the wall. (Okay there’s no writing on my walls but you get the idea.) It’s such a pain in the butt wearing glasses when you’re active. My eyes have been so dry lately (Blame Alberta) and my contacts are not loving the dry air. Grrrrrr!
Anyway the plan was to meet Carleigh for lunch at Padmanadi but as luck would have it she got tied up with something else. I walked the one kilometre to the restaurant for a solo meal. I didn’t mind. The worst part was actually getting there. The doctors had dilated my eyes with some drops. I couldn’t see close up and the light really bothered my eyes.
I had five hours to kill before my eyes returned to normal. I barely made it to the restaurant. There was a lot of squinting involved. I am so happy I went. Look at that spread. I even ordered some Gado Gado for take out. After chowing down, I walked to the City Centre Mall for some window shopping. Of course I couldn’t see a damn thing but I could try on some clothes to keep myself occupied.
Fast forward a few hours later, my vision returned and I was able to drive back to Red Deer. I have never had my eyes dilated before so it was really freaky. When I got home, I immediately changed into my running gear and went for a quick run. I pulled on my new Altras for my first run in them outside. You may remember I bought them at half price on Boxing Day. (I love deals.)
Today I went out for a 20K or two-hour run along Red Deer streets. I didn’t feel like driving to Kananaskis because I had driven enough on Saturday. I set out pretty late because I forgot to set my alarm. My run was pretty awesome save for two blisters on my toes. I may have bought a size too small in my Altras. I am pretty sad because I loved the feel of them. Not sure what to do now. Should I buy a size larger or should I just keep wearing them and hope for the best?
My reward for my long run? A super awesome Vega One nutritional shake. I haven’t had one in a long time. I used Almond milk, peanut butter, banana and half a cup of strawberries as well as a scoop of Vega One. Talk about awesome! My taste buds loved surprising taste of the strawberries mixed with peanut butter and chocolate. (Yes I may have taken in three days worth of protein.)
I had a nice low-key weekend. It’s nice to have those kind of weekends every now and then.
How was your weekend?
I’m the same with glasses/contacts ๐ I’ve never looked into Lasik but would love to have it done. I’ve had glasses since I was in grade 1, even got to wear an eye patch every Sunday after church…man I hated Sundays ๐
Getting your eyes dilated is the worst, you feel terrible because you really can’t see! Looks like you had some lovely eats and a great run!
