Getting bendy with it

I joined Alycia for a “yin” class at Breathing Room on Friday night. To mark its fourth year anniversary, the studio offered free yoga all week. We only found out about the offer on Thursday so we didn’t have much time to try out the classes.

The yin class started at 7 p.m. so I rushed from my physio appointment to get there in time. We knew it would be busy because the class is free. The class is considered a slow-paced yoga where you hold the poses for five minutes. Yikes!

I’ve only been to Bikram Yoga so I don’t know much about how other classes operate. I’m that yoga green.

Our class was pretty full – maybe 14 people – and many were trying for the first time like us. (I was happy to run into Dana and Wade who I met through Ignite. They were there for date night. Wade said the hips and hammies class has really made a difference in his lifting. Good to know.)

The poses were not difficult. It was holding them for 5 minutes that was the challenge. My body, especially my hips, thanked me for the stretch. I didn’t need a yoga class to tell this runner she is tight but it was a good reminder of what I need to work on.

The “dragon” pose, in particular, provided a lot of feedback on my tight hip flexors.  Our teacher mentioned this is the pose that she never forgets to time. Lots of laughter at this.  By the end of 10 minutes, I could feel the release. Loved it.

Now to get my lazy butt to a regular yoga class ….
