My first race this season – Blackfoot Ultra is in exactly one month.
I officially made the call to drop my distance to 25K from 50K after a few weeks of going back and forth. My injury sidelined me for a few weeks and I am not where I would like to be in my training. Sure I could fake my way through the 50K but I don’t want to “just finish.”
And it’s simply not in the best interests of my body. Instead I am focusing on strength and mobility while I continue to train. I’m slightly disappointed but I know there will always be another 50K.
I feel like a huge weight have been lifted off my shoulders. I had a big goal that I wanted to crush in Blackfoot. With every day I was running, I could see my goal slip away. My goal has now changed to finishing a strong 25K. The snow has finally melted so I can get back to the ski trails to train.
I renewed my crossfit membership this week. I am on the hook for another year. I weighed the pros and cons of renewing for days. I struggled with the high cost and being able to get my money’s worth. When I am in high mileage mode, I barely make it to the gym. It’s like throwing money out the window. I reasoned the benefits of crossfit definitely outweighed the downsides.
I have to learn how to manage my time and training better. I know that’s easier said than done but here’s to trying! Happy Thursday.
Good for you for listening to your body and making the change—it must have been very difficult. Also good for you for re-signing up for crossfit, I would miss your posts about them if you didn't!
Death By Deadlifts was my favourite Crossfit WOD. Good for you for renewing. Have you figured out how many classes you need to make it to in order to get your money's worth? Maybe it really all balances out when you're in high mileage mode and you don't have to feel as guilty?
