My week in Crossfit

I write this post on the heels of rocking three challenging Crossfit WOD this week. Wow I am good sore all over. I’m halfway finish of my three-month challenge. It’s been really great and I think I have found my groove.

Getting up at 5 a.m. is not easy but I am finding my pillow earlier. More sleep makes a huge difference.

Monday’s WOD was pure madness. It looked harmless … we were still talking about it on Friday. Talk about a lung buster! Shortest minute of my life. This could be a contender for one of the hardest WODs. It’s been a while but I think it’s harder than that crazy Miracle Mile. I could barely get in a C&J before it was time to do 7 more wall balls. I lost count at how many I finished in the end. I was one of the last people to finish.

We did Angie (ha ha) on Wednesday. Megan, Becky and I did this benchmark WOD last summer. It took me 23 minutes in June using a band for the pull ups. I didn’t rest as much between pull ups on Wednesday. I think it made a huge difference in cutting my time. This week it took me 19:40 seconds using a band again for the pull ups. I am not sure how long it took for each skill. I powered through the squats and sit ups (broken into 25-25-20-10-10-10). My push up technique is much, much better. I broke up the sit ups into something like 25-20-10-20-10-5. Feels good to see some improvement (even though I haven’t been doing crossfit regularly for months).

I met Kelly for the 5:45 class on Thursday. I was SO SORE from the push ups. I could barely bend my arms. The warm up did my body some good. I was relieve that there was no overhead stuff in the WOD. My poor body could not have handled it. This was a good WOD. I haven’t deadlifted in a long time so it was good to see what I could do. The Rx for women was 175 pounds but I decided to scale to 165. I wanted to ease back into it. I also skipped 75 times because my DUs are not there yet. This was challenging but managed to finish within seconds! I had to break up the deadlifts over the last four rounds. I was getting tired and my form was getting sloppy. Coach said I was looking good. I will take that!
The Crossfit Open started this week. The 14.1 WOD was released during our Thursday class. Everyone was huddled around the computer watching the announcement. I wish I could do the open but there’s some skills I am unable to do – mainly pull ups and DUs. And the first WOD features DUs. Ha ha ha
Maybe next year! It will be fun watching everyone compete!

Happy Saturday!

  1. Looks like a solid week of training to me – great job! Ahh the weather… I'm finding that it's forcing me to be more creative with my workouts. I completely agree, as long as you're keeping active it's fairly easy to get back into the long runs. I opted for a mix of cycling and running on the track at Talisman. It was -40 outside but felt like I was running in the Bahamas on the track, humid and warm!
