Live from Arizona …..

I made it!

Things got real this morning when the cab I ordered for 4 a.m. was a no show. I called the dispatcher a few times and she gave major attitude. It all worked out in the end and I made it to the airport 10 minutes before boarding. But for a few minutes I freaked out because I thought I would miss my flight.

It was -41C with the windchill when I left Red Deer. The small plane that I took to Calgary must have been -71C. Talk about freaking cold! Usually I hate warm planes but I welcomed the toasty Air Canada flight from Calgary to Phoenix. I sat back watched 2 Guns and put the winter behind me!

Audrey met me in her shiny red corvette at the Phoenix airport. It felt great to hug Audrey after the morning I had. We hit the highway towards Tucson straight away. We stopped for an hour or so at one of the outlet malls for some light shopping and to stretch our legs. While it was slightly chilly in Arizona at +3C, I welcomed the warmth!  I will trade cactus for snowbanks anytime!

We’re staying at the Hilton in Tucson which is also the headquarters for the race. On race morning, we’ll take a shuttle to the start of the marathon. Last night we did a quick walk through at the expo to pick up our race packages before dinner.
By this time I had been up for close to 14 hours. Everything was pretty much a blur at dinner. We dined at the hotel restuarant. Then it was back to the hotel to chill out! Tomorrow we’ll start our day with a short run before we hit the expo again!

The Dallas Marathon was cancelled today because of a major ice storm. I heard at the expo last night organizers are inviting the marathoners to come here to race. Anyway I want to thank everyone for the well wishes. Time to hit the sack!
