Why yes I fancy myself a runner. You wouldn’t know it lately. All I have been doing is yakking and doing crossfit. It’s that addicting. But I am a runner first so despite my tired legs, I went out for my usual Sunday long run. I was slightly worried because I could feel those lunges as soon as I hopped out of bed this morning.
I bought a new buff at Valhalla yesterday afternoon. New gear always excites me. I love the colours in this one which was actually on display. I had to get the sales person to take it down for me. Loved it so much. Buffs are so versatile and fun to wear. My perfect choice for headwear.
RUN
Geared up with my Garmin, iPod and Camelbak, I headed out around 8 a.m. The only thing missing was my running buddy Laura who’s on holiday. Plan was to spend at least two-hours on my feet or to run 20k. I started out with no route in mind. I didn’t want to over think it but to simply enjoy my run.
Another great podcast from Trail Runner Nation kept me company. These podcasts are perfect for long runs because I get so intent on the podcast that I have barely noticed I’ve run 10k. I ran through neighbourhood after neighbourhood. The first 45 minutes were not so great. It took my body that long to warm up and brush off the residual effects of Saturday’s WOD. I finished with 18k on my Garmin.
POST-RUN
I finished my run at the gas station so I could walk and drink coffee at the same time. My perfect cool down after a long run. I usually do not drink coffee before my early morning runs. So I am usually dying for a caffeine fix.
My post long run ritual is pretty standard. I drank a protein shake while I soaked in an ice bath. Look closely you will see the bruises on my knees from yesterday’s lunges. My legs and my butt badly needed this ice bath. Pure magic.
How was your long run?
