What to buy the runner in your family for Christmas

Are you having trouble deciding the perfect gift for the runner in your family? Don’t be. Runners are easy I’ve written lists in the past and here’s my latest on Christmas gifts for the runner in your family.

1. Sneakers  Enough said. Be sure to take a look at his or her sneaker collection and size before you lay down some cash. Keep the receipt.

2. Gift certificates to a Running Store If you are really stuck, buy a nice card and stuff a gift certificate inside. Easy.

3. Race Entry Sign your loved one up for a race. Run it with him or her. But don’t do it unless you know he or she would like the gesture. For example, if the runner only runs 5km races, don’t sign him up for a marathon.

4. Coffee cards Runners love their coffee post-runs.

5. iPod Most runners I know always listen to music when they run. Give the gift of music and don’t forget to load it up with your runner’s fav music.

6. Running belts There’s so many types of belts out there. I use a Spibelt to carry my keys and sometimes my iPhone. I’ve tried several before I found the right one. Again keep the receipt.

7. Garmin Runners like to know their pace, distance and time.

8. Headlamp Does your runner run early in the morning or in the evenings? Help them light the way.

9. Massage Pamper the runner in your family.

10. Cold weather running clothes I think every Canadian runner should have one or 2 balaclavas, long johns and warm gloves. Of course you can always pick up socks, wicking shirts and warm toques.

11. Running magazine subscription like Runner’s World or Canadian Running

12. Bodyglide Stuff this in his or her stocking.

13. Frame a race picture Your runner will love you for this gesture. Find a flattering photo and pick a pretty frame.
