I love that Bulk Barn posts recipes and cooking directions beside the lentils and beans. I picked up this Jade Blend. It’s a mix of bamboo rice, wheat berries, basmati rice, green lentils, split baby garbanzo beans and daikon radish seeds. Crazy, right? No doubt it packs a powerful protein punch.
I bought just enough for a couple servings. I didn’t want to waste it if I didn’t like it. This afternoon I decided to whip up the blend for Monday’s lunch.
The cooking directions are pretty simple. Bring 1 3/4 cups of water to a boil. Then stir in 1 cup of the blend, bring to a boil. Turn down the heat, cover and let simmer for 12 minutes.
I admit I forgot it was boiling. When I checked on the pan the water was nearly evaporated. I tasted the mix and I could tell the beans were not fully cooked. I added a little bit more of water. I let it simmer for a few more minutes with the cover on. The mix was getting a little soaky so I turned up the heat to speed up the process.
Ta da! It’s a little bland for me. I’ll spice it up for flavour. Yum. Can’t wait until lunch time on Monday.
I have never heard of half of these ingredients 😉 But vegan protein is a must, and with the help of Google translate I’m sure I can find most of thjis even in Sweden.
