Marathon Recovery 101

I read somewhere you should take one day rest for every mile raced. Do the math. That’s 26 days. I wonder if anyone follows that guideline. I know I do not. I like to rest my legs for a a week before I get back to it.

This time around I put my feet up slightly. (My right foot is injured so I had no choice.) But I don’t completely fall off the fitness wagon. I like to walk. Next week I am also back to CrossFit. (Can’t wait!)  In the meantime, I am drinking lots of wine, reading books and getting caught up on carp television. Horrible, right?

I can’t help but feel a little down. Now what? I have so much time on my hands. Our bodies need time to get back to fighting shape. Running for 4 hours is tough on our bodies. I owe it to myself to give my body the rest it deserves. Rest. Recovery. Rest. I can handle that.
