Olympic motivation: Women’s marathon (London 2012)

Watching the Olympics is exhausting. I am not sure whether it’s the two different painkillers simply doing their trick or my lack of movement in the last three days. I am hooked.

Can’t tear myself away. Case in point? I was glued to the very boring women’s marathon on my MacBook Pro for the 2-plus hours it took these amazing women to run 42.1 kilometres. (Seriously the last 10 kilometres were the most exciting.)

Motivation? Inspiration? Hello.

Winner Tiki Gelana of Ethiopia crossed the line at 2:23:07. Gulp. I get completely dumbstruck when I watch these amazing athletic feats.

And then I think about all the hard work these athletes put in every single day to make their country proud.

My hat’s off to all these athletes –– medalists or not –– Good on ya! Now what’s on next?

And I should admit to a little daydreaming while I was running my 8k yesterday. Be honest. I bet more than a few of you recreational runners have pretended you were winning a gold medal in the Olympic Games or winning the Boston Marathon. We can only dream, right?
