Diagnosis? Pain in the butt

At lunch I went to my first physiotherapy appointment at a spot in downtown Red Deer. I was pressed for time so I was quite annoyed when I was kept waiting for 20 minutes. Grrrr!

I was asked the typical “where does it hurt?” and “does it hurt when you…?” questions before the therapist did a series of tests. I do not feel pain anymore only tightness. So I only went to the appointment to double check my hip/ass issue wasn’t anything serious.

When I was sitting there answering questions, I felt like a complete idiot. I tried to give my own diagnosis. I could tell he was impressed. Right.

Nearly an hour later, he gave his own take. He said I likely strained my gluteus maximus muscle during the marathon. (No shit) He also said my left hip is weaker than my right hip. He added the muscles are tight around my butt. None of this was surprising or earth shattering news. (By the way, he didn’t say it was my IT band)

The assessment took so long that I didn’t have time for my treatment. I told the secretary I would call to schedule an appointment. I don’t think I will. If tightness is the issue than I can work on that at home.

Stretching and rolling will be my new mantra.

I went to CFE tonight where we did hill repeats. My legs feel a little tired still so I walked to the track. It felt good doing the repeats but I think the eight reps were enough for one night. I had a good stretch when I got home.

I think another massage is in order.
