Weissbier by Paulaner

Dry Run Diaries: Weissbier by Paulaner

I chose the unfiltered German style wheat Weissbier by Paulaner beer for this week’s testing. I learned after I tasted the beer that it is known for its cloudy appearance and fruity, spicy flavours.

Paulaner is one of the most renowned and historic breweries in Bavaria, Germany. The brewery is named after St. Francis of Paola, the founder of the order. The name “Paulaner” comes from the Latin form of “Paola.”

My Review – Weissbier by Paulaner (500 ml, 24 calories, 0.0% ABV)

Name Bling (name creativity) – It’s all German to me. Seriously it’s plain Jane if it’s simply called wheat beer in Germany. But I love this historic reference for the name of the brewery. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Sip n’ Savour (Taste) – This beer is brewed using the traditional Paulaner Weissbier technique and the alcohol is carefully removed after a thorough maturing process. A complex procedure removes all the alcohol from the beer. This beer is described as “refreshingly fruity Weissbier flavours and a pleasing hint of sweetness.” I can’t say I am a fan of sweet beer. It’s just not the flavour profile that I am going for. ⭐⭐⭐

Wallet Wellness Index (Value for Money) – $4 a can is cheaper than a pint at the pub. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Label Love (Packaging/ Presentation) – Sold in singles, the cans were bright and fun. There’s a woman dressed in traditional Bavarian attire. In the background, the scene could be described as a typical beer garden. I quite enjoyed the vibrant scene that felt like I was in Germany. I’ve seen the bottles online and they look super inviting too. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Overall – Likely I will not buy this beer again. I’m just not into fruity beers. I am sad that I did not love this iconic beer. ⭐⭐⭐

Where to buy: I bought Weissbier by Paulander at a liquor store in Calgary. Buy yours online here.
