Epic views. Epic.
In a world that’s becoming increasingly fast-paced and disconnected from nature, Smutwood Peak is a nice reminder of the immense beauty and tranquility that surrounds us.
Laurent and I decided on this classic beauty after texting Katie on our way back from Bluerock Mountain. She had mentioned it before and it totally slipped my mind.
Her photos were smoky but I could tell it was a lovely hike. As luck would have it, there was no sign of smoke the next day. We really lucked out on this one. The trail was generally quiet but we would come across other runners and hikers now and then.
The trail was generally very good for running. Once we got to the pass and to the Birdwood Lakes it was challenging to keep moving – the views from every direction were outstanding.
I don’t think I was prepared for the truly magical Smutwood Peak. Outof this world. I read somewhere that Smutwood Peak “sits in grandeur” (an expression I love). I tend to agree with its stellar views of Mount Birdwood, Mount Smuts (from the pass) and other specular peaks.
This trail has everything from waterfalls, lakes to wildflowers. Truly add this one to your list.
