I added Rimwall to my Project 23 list recently. The day after Monica and I scrambled up Dolomite Peak, we decided to do something chill and runnable so we headed over to Bow Valley Wildland Provincial Park.
Kate joined us and the three of us set off for a jaunt up Rimwall and possibly neighbouring Windtower. The route is very short so we thought we could tag bought summits in a few hours. The route starts up to the popular West Wind Pass.
Once we got out of the trees the views of Spray Lakes and surrounding mountains were outstanding. We hiked over some rock and scree. It wasn’t anything too difficult. There were a few short scrambly parts but overall it was pretty chill. The higher we got the more the surrounding mountains came into view including the Orphan, Middle Sister and Windtower.
We had caught up with a duo and chatted with them at the false summit and up to the summit. Instead of doing the usual out and back, we took a scree run down. The two men decided to join us too.
The scree was really fun to go down. From there we headed over to Windtower. The trails are all connected so it wasn’t much of a stretch to continue.
Earlier in the day, I noticed that my bite valve on my hydration vest had a hole so all my water was leaking out. We even tried to put duct tape on it to stop it from leaking out. It slowed the leak a little but I lost a lot of water. I drank my remaining water at the Rimwall summit.
We decided not to summit Windtower after we hit West Wind Pass. Our water situation was that great for any of us and we still had a bunch of climbing to do.
West Wind Pass was beautiful – a nice add on to Rimwall. The whole morning was lovely. It was nice to get out even though I was a little tired from the previous two days. I will have to back and tag Windtower soon.
