Can you call it a week of training when you only ran twice?
Yes. Yes you can.
My two runs were quality – 12K and 20K – time on feet so nothing was wasted. I was happy to get in a 20K run last Wednesday before the cold snap really set in in Alberta. No doubt you have heard how cold it has been since late last week.
While every runner in Alberta was either running on his or treadmill or freezing their butts off outside, I took a fallback a.k.a. self-care week. Perfect timing. Besides as you will recall, last week I sold my treadmill.
I have been getting in some good volume over the last month so I take comfort in knowing a scaled-back week isn’t going to affect my training that much. Long runs are the most important runs in my training so I am not too concerned if I miss a few 10Ks here and there.
There’s lots of time to get into some long runs in without the risk of frostbite or hypothermia.
Taking time to recharge, recover and attend to our runner’s bodies is so important. Sometimes in the excitement of a new training schedule or a new challenge, we forget to slow down.
We put our bodies through so much that we owe it to ourselves for a little TLC now and then.
Besides practicing yoga at least twice a day, I started pampering my feet every night with a soothing epsom salt bath. Pure heaven. I have had a few issues with my feet lately so this is the perfect remedy.
When was the last time you pampered yourself?
