First run & checking out Johnston Canyon

It’s been nearly three weeks since I sprained my ankle. As you can imagine, I am going a little stir crazy. Sure I have been getting to the gym consistently but it’s not the same thing as running.

The swelling and bruising in my ankle is pretty much gone. Every day I am gaining more mobility so that’s encouraging. On Wednesday, I ventured out for a 5k run around the neighbourhood. I avoided the elevation on Nose Hill because I didn’t think my ankle would appreciate it.

Long story, short … it didn’t completely suck. The first kilometre was amazing. I think I was just so happy to be actually moving. Then my ankle got a little cranky. I toughed it out and finished strong (not limping). I wanted to run longer but I knew it would be best in the long run (no pun intended) to keep it light.

The next day I felt fine. But today my ankle is feeling really tight. I tried to do some lunges at the gym but my ankle was totally not feeling it.

More rest is needed. That’s OK. I am really enjoying lifting at the gym. Who knows maybe I will find some muscles while my ankle heals.

In other news ….

Last weekend, Melissa was in Calgary for a short visit. (Melissa is one of my oldest friends in Ottawa.)  I was happy that my place earned a stop on her whirlwind trip. On Saturday we went out to dinner at The Street Eatery, which boasted a solid vegan menu. I have been meaning to try it. The dishes were huge! Melissa had a meat dish while I had the KFC Stone Bowl Stir-Fry. We also shared barbecue vegan wings. So good!

Yummy! We were so full! Loved this cozy little spot. It was very busy so we knew it would be good!
Melissa in Calgary! We took a little walk before dinner.

The next day we were on the road to Johnston Canyon in Banff. Snow was blowing all over the road. Driving was a little dicy. I wasn’t sure if we would end up in the ditch or safely in a cafe in Canmore slipping a cup of coffee. I woke some loose winter boots because my sneakers are too tight for my ankle. They didn’t have the greatest grip but they worked.

We weren’t the only ones braving the roads on Saturday.
We made it. Now the big test would be walking without falling on our butts.
Thankfully it wasn’t snowing in Banff. In fact, it didn’t look like it even showed that day.
What beautiful colours. I don’t think my iPhone did the blues in this photo justice.
While it looks like we were along, the trail was packed. It was fun to watch how everyone was navigating the slippery trails. Thankfully Melissa and I stayed upright.
A picture of the frozen lower falls.
It was impossible to take a good photo of the upper falls. It was so packed. I was worried someone would bump me and my iPhone would go flying.

Love!
