I can’t get hurt. I won’t get hurt. I am a bionic woman. Repeat.
On Monday, I was feeling extremely stressed so I went shopping for a race.
Fortunately I didn’t have to go far as my pal Greg from Lethbridge just posted his registration for the Elk Valley 50K.
Huh.
I like elks. I’m from the valley.
When is this race?, I asked.
July.
Ding. Ding. Ding.
I’m not doing anything in July.
A few hours later, I’m sharing my own registration post on social media.
That makes sixish official races for 2018:
- River Valley Revenge 25K – January
- Blackfoot 50K – May
- Elk Valley 50K – July
- Iron Legs 60K – August
- Lost Soul 54K – September (Registration opens Thursday)
- Iron Horse 100K – September
- Run the Rock 50K – November (maybe)
I have a lot of work to do but I am so excited about all the training. Yes, it looks aggressive especially for someone who didn’t run/finish any ultras last year. My thinking is simple – it’s all about mileage. The first two races will be good training runs for the rest of the season. I have no doubt that Elk Valley and Iron Legs will seriously kick my butt. I don’t usually do so many races in the year because 1. I don’t have the time 2. They are expensive and 3. I don’t have the energy. The last time I did so many races in one year was when I was running half-marathons.
Fortunately I have lots of people in the running community that I can lean on for support and to answer my neurotic questions. I’ve had a lot of feedback from my column in the Advocate. I appreciate the support especially from the non-runners. People love to hear stories and to feel that connect with another through word. It’s a glorious thing.
What’s your first race this year? How many races do you typically do in a season?
Awesome girl! got get ’em!
