Winter is here. Sounds the alarms. Dig out your snow brush. Winter is here!
If you’re in Alberta, you know what I am talking about. Just yesterday the snow started falling and burying most of the province. We haven’t received that much snow yet in Red Deer. But I am so ready. So ready.
Last winter was not fun at all. I hibernated most of the winter because the conditions were bloody awful for running. It’s one thing running in the cold. You can dress for the weather but you cannot fix unplowed or icy trails. It’s a disaster waiting to happen. I got so frustrated last winter that I bought a treadmill, which arrived …. after the winter.
I have no doubt that Bjorn and I will be spending lots of time together over the next five months. But don’t me wrong, I am determined to run as much as I can outside this winter. In fact I am on the fence about signing up for – River Valley Revenge Ultra – a winter race.
I’m trying to convince some friends to run with me. Amanda bought these wicked new sneakers but she won’t run the race with me! Thankfully Carleigh has agreed to run the 5K. It’s funny because I have sworn up and down that I would never, ever run another winter race. Running the hypo half in all kinds of weather ruined winter running for me. But I am determined to embrace winter running even more this year. What better way than to sign up for what will likely be a miserable race in January?
This Sunday, Jon will run his 10K race in Calgary. I am really excited for him. He’s worked hard over the last couple of months. Hopefully the snow will stop falling. I am driving with Laura, who is running the half marathon. I’ll be on the sidelines cheering on Jon and Laura, taking photos (and secretly cursing Laura for taking so long to run!).
