Watch: Nothing beats the first frosty run

What a glorious day to be out in the mountains.

It’s been weeks or maybe months since I ran/hiked/crawled up Moose Mountain from the West Bragg Trails. If you have been following me on the blog for a while, you will remember I used to do this just about every weekend. That stopped when Rachel and I began meeting at Station Flats and area.

I really needed this long run today. Since I DNFed at Lost Souls, I have been just concentrating on staying injury free. I haven’t had any issues with my leg/knee lately so I felt ready to test myself on the downhills.

I also wanted to avoid the parking lot construction. Does it ever look good! The crews did a great job. There’s so much more paved parking. The area looks completely different. I hope they didn’t take down too many trees to make this project happen.

Slightly, muddy trail. You could see both human and animal footprints.

I was on my own today so I settled in for a long haul. My iPod was charged and I had some apples in my pack. I was ready to rock and roll. I started on the mountain road and made my way to Moose Packers where I connected to the windy road to the top. It was muddy for the most part until I reached the meadow.

A hiker makes her way to the summit in the distance. She was the first person I had seen all morning.

A few minutes before this picture, I stopped to eat an apple and cover my face. It was about to get quite windy. I should tell you that I realized about an hour into my run that I only had two short podcasts on my iPod. I forgot to load up with music. I was stuck listening to an old episode of Invisibilia and Trail Runner Nation. I didn’t mind so much about the TRN because I am a fan of Brian MacKenzie. I have also been thinking about getting back into crossfit so maybe this was a sign?

Sorry I didn’t get any photos/video from the false summit. My iPhone’s battery died shortly after I took this quick video. Take it from me โ€“ the views were stunning from every direction. It was slightly windy but it wasn’t as cold as it was when I was up here a few weeks ago. I bumped into more hikers and runners along the climb. I was happy I wasn’t the only one who witnessed such glory today!

I really needed this kick in the butt today.

Peace.
