Last weekend I covered lots of ground on foot and in Versa. On Saturday, I explored the trails in Kananaskis Country. I started at Station Flats and found my way to Moose Packers and slightly beyond.
I had no definite plan for Sunday. Lately I have been thinking about checking out Abraham Lake. I was up for a short hike and a little exploring in the David Thompson area. Amanda suggested I take in the view of the lake on Vision Quest. It was short & sweet, she said.
Why not? I have never driven past Nordegg and I was over running up and down Coliseum Mountain. A change of scenery would be good. I found the trailhead after some minor confusion on my part. (There’s two waste transfer sites and you should park at the one that is about 40K south of Nordegg)
To make a long story short … since it’s been over a week now. Read my Advocate column here. Finding the actual trail proved to be an issue. I went off track for about 2k before I found myself staring at the rock face. I could either scale to the top or retrace my steps and try to find the proper trail. Since I am no mountain climber, I took the sensible option and turned around.
Eventually I found the proper route. By this time I was really frustrated with myself for being so stupid. I regrouped and set off to find the peak. Three hikers were coming down the mountain, which gave me a boost of confidence.
And what a view! Views from Vision Quest made up for all my mishaps! I was very fortunate that things didn’t go too bad. I didn’t have cell service and I wasn’t that familiar with the area. Most of all, I learned that it’s fine to be spontaneous in my trips but I ought to do a little more research.
Check out my view from top here.
Were you aline? I am not that brave. Lovly pics!
I meant ALONE.
Yes alone 🙂
