Vegan Eats: Veggie Bob’s/Worth the $$$ cab ride

veggie bobHey friends! So if you follow me on Twitter or Instagram or on my Running with Rhyno page, you will see that I went to Veggie Bob‘s an awesome vegan restaurant last weekend in Fort Langley. The restaurant was 13 kilometres away from my hotel, which was the closet to where I was staying in Langley. It’s been operational as Fort Langley’s only meat-free business since 1978. I found the restaurant on Happy Cow while I was at the airport in Calgary.

You guessed it (above) – this is Veggie Bob. Doesn’t he looked thrilled to have his photo taken?

veggie bobLove love this restaurant front. I called in advance to make sure I don’t need reservation. (I like to be prepared). Loved the green paint. The cab driver missed it and we had to turn around. Thankfully I was looking out the window at the time.

veggie bobI loved this place as soon as I walked into the door. The decor was very inviting and homey.  Their tag line is “At ‘Veggie Bob’s Kitchen Cafe”- REAL ‘Comfort Food’ IS Plant Based!” It’s whole restaurant, which seats less than 20 people just screams comfort. Look at those chairs!

There was a lot to choose from on the plant-based comfort menu. Tired from my conference, I wasn’t overly hungry. But I didn’t want to miss out on eating here. The vegan “sausages” are quite popular but they looked too much like the real thing for me. Plus I didn’t want to risk any onions on my plate.  The Revoluntionary Burrito looked really good too. However I went with the Naughty Nachos.

I know – not terribly exciting – but I wasn’t that hungry. The beans were AMAZING and I loved the fresh salsa. So so good. I could have hanged out at this restaurant all night. But that would have been weird. I loved looking at the posters and artwork scattered throughout the small restaurant. You can also see Bob working away in the kitchen area.

veggie bob I highly recommend this place, if you are ever in Fort Langley or nearby. They must be doing something right because they have been open for more than three decades.  I didn’t get to talk to Veggie Bob as I would have liked to. It was getting busy when I was there. He made some joke about getting vegetarian/vegan food in Red Deer. But I assured him there’s a small community of like-minded people who have made the crucial choice to leave a no meat/no harm life.

veggie bobFinding a vegan restaurant was the perfect way to cap off a whirlwind trip to B.C. for a digital media conference. The hotel restaurant wasn’t very vegan or even vegetarian friendly. Thankfully there’s always a sushi restaurant that will prepare vegan rolls.

veggie bobThank you for stopping by today. It’s always fun to share when I try a new restaurant. I hope you enjoy these posts too. Please let me know in the comments below.

Happy Sunday!
