Truth be told, it was a battle to get outside tonight. I changed my mind about five times. My plan today was to run with the Red Deer Runners at 6 p.m. But as the snow kept falling, I reasoned it made better sense to run directly after work instead of waiting around. I didn’t want to be on the roads anymore or any later than I had to today.
Look at my happy face, right? I have this no-brainer 5K loop near my office that circles around the Bower neighbourhood. It wasn’t really cold today so I had no excuses for getting outside. I only had to tell myself – it is only 5K (or 30 minutes) of my life.
The trails were gloriously covered with a light dusting of snow. Thankfully it hasn’t been that cold lately to allow ice to form on the pathways. I was able to keep a decent pace without having to worry about landing on my butt.
So all day long my butt gradually got its ouch on. Yesterday we did some crazy lunges at crossfit. I knew I would be hurting today. I knew once I started moving, I would be okay. Sitting on my tush for most of the afternoon did not help the cause.
It was a beautiful night for a run. I remember this house in Bower from last year. Paul and I stopped to gaze at the lights on one of our runs. It’s the best house on the block. Looks like the display took a lot of work but it is definitely worth the result.
I didn’t see too many people out on the trails. Lots of people were shovelling. However, one boy about 12 told me I was awesome. I think my Petzl headlamp impressed him.
lol The occasional 12-year-old boy has great taste!
