I have a 50K scheduled for early September. I am so looking forward to it. My dream is to run ultras in awesome places all over the world. As it is only my second ultra I am not expecting a big PR. Plus the course is completely different than Blackfoot. I was told to add a couple hours onto my Blackfoot time.
My goal is pretty much survival.
It’s a few months away so I have lots of time to train.
But … I also want to make up for my disappointing marathon. I am considering a marathon in either Victoria or Kelowna in October. I would love to go to Toronto but I am forcing myself to race on the cheap this year. I spent a lot of money in 2013 on two trips and my car.
I would have a month or so between my 50K and my marathon. I am struggling with trying to figure out my training plan. I don’t want to skimp on speed work at the expense of spending more time on my feet to build mileage.
Oh the noise of it all.
It wouldn’t be such a big deal if I just wanted “to finish” my marathon. I want to do well.
I’ve pretty much decided to follow a marathon training plan with a goal date in October. I will tweak it to add back to back longish runs on Saturdays and Sundays. I’ve taken elements of the Hansons Marathon Method and Run Less, Run Faster approaches. I have factored in a possible half-marathon in August and a couple 5 Peaks races this summer.
This could turn out to be a Buddha awful experience or something freaking amazing. We’ll see. Next week I will unveil my training plan (even though I am technically starting this week).
Have you ever raced marathons back to back in a short time span? How did you do? Advice?
