My legs carried my sorry butt back to the road/trail this weekend. I took five full days off of activity to snap my head back into the game and rest my aching leg. No running. No crossfit.
On Saturday, I managed a slow 5K run on my favourite trail in Riverbend. It wasn’t entirely unpleasant. My right leg was giving a little grief but it felt so nice to be away from the urban grind that I just embraced the suck. It rained a little so I cut my time short.
Yesterday Shannon and I ran 10K on the Blackfalds to Lacombe trail. I was nervous about running on asphalt but surprisingly I felt pretty damn good. My hammie seized up a little bit but I felt good overall. Shannon is always so much fun to run with.
For the rest of the weekend, I watched Orange is the New Black, tended my lovely garden and caught up on some reading. Life is good.
So post-marathon … I am feeling pretty good overall but I still feel a little “out of whack.” A few people suggested that I am be lacking some vitamins. So I am going to check out a few vitamin stores this week. In two weeks I will be running Rundle’s Revenge. I am super excited to get out on the trail and be one with nature and the fabulous trail running community.
I'm glad you are recovering well post-marathon. I always feel out of whack after a marathon. It usually takes me longer than a week to feel normal. Your Rundle's race sounds very cool!
Thanks. I am just so happy the snow is gone.
Glad you're are getting back at it! I'd love to try a trail run sometime.
It's so nice. You really should ๐
I've been finding some incredible results from 'Juicing' (and I don't mean steroids!!) In terms of getting pure & simple vitamins & micro-nutrients, nothing beats juicing. I first got into it by watching this documentary: http://www.rebootwithjoe.com/watch-fat-sick-and-nearly-dead/ But seriously, I got a PR my last race & I haven't slowed down, recovery is best it's ever been & I totally attribute this to all of the juicing I've been doing. Good job on the recovery run post marathon! I've decided to try my second marathon this fall in Victoria!
Thanks Toni-Lee. I will definitely watch that docu! I hate taking pills of any sorts even if they are "vitamins." I prefer actual food.
Trail half marathons are the very best! I am so amazed at how much gentler it is on my body that road racing!
Also, I have not checked out Orange is the New Black. You recommend?
Sounds like you're recovering well! Glad to hear your body is feeling good even when running on pavement. I visit a naturopath every couple months as training tends to leave my body low on different vitamins. When I start feeling out of whack I get myself a B12 shot and within a day I'm back to myself! I highly recommend B12 and you can conveniently get it from the pharmacy!
