Happy Marathon Week!
I’m within days of running my fifth marathon.
Emails from the Calgary Marathon organizers are coming fast to my inbox. There’s information about the expo, package pickup and much more. I’m not going to get overwhelmed. I will not freak out.
I’m staying at the Westin with Yvonne. I’m driving to Calgary early Friday afternoon while Yvonne is driving in later after work. I don’t like taking two vehicles but I took the afternoon off to go to the expo. I hate being rushed. Brent & Sona may catch a ride too.
All the marathon bigwigs are invited to a VIP cocktail party on Friday night. I’m on the list (plus one) as one of the race ambassadors. I’ll be the one horribly underdressed. Should be a fun night.
I am looking forward to adding another medal to my collection.
This is my New York City Marathon medal, my first. I earned this beauty in November 2011. I got into the marathon on my first try through the lottery. I was completely thrown for a loop because I never pictured myself running a marathon.
Next up was the Calgary Marathon in May 2012. I remember this day being very cold. My body ached and I had blisters galore. My old friends Carleigh and Jon were at the race. I was so happy to see them at the finish line.
In October 2012 I headed to Kelowna for my third marathon with Audrey. We had a great time. The course was really beautiful. After the race, we went on a lovely wine tour.
And last December I ran the Tucson Marathon. This was my first trip to the Arizona desert. I LOVED it. The Americans sure know how to put on a great race.
I’ve already received a sneak preview of Calgary’s medals at the big reveal. (I didn’t tough them because that’s bad luck!). I really need to get one of those medal hangers!
Crazy how quickly race day has come! You are going to rock the marathon 🙂
Thanks! I am looking forward to being around so many runners!
May has flown by. This'll be my 4th. Looking forward to the whole thing, right down to the cocktail party.
There's nothing like race day, I know you'll love every second like all of us 🙂
For sure! It's going to be AWESOME. See you there!
