My Crossfit challenge has ended. Kelly and I had no problems going to three classes each week for three months. Sure some weeks were a little challenging but I would be in serious trouble if I could not find an hour in my day to work out.
The gang at Pure Fitness were pretty great and encouraging. Time sure flew when you are WODing!
I am in the thick of amping up my mileage for Calgary/Lethbridge so I took a week away from the box while I concentrated on the trail. Sleeping in never felt so good. In fact it felt so good that I overslept on the morning of my big return (sorry Kelly!).
Randy a WOD of 75 snatch at 55 pounds (75 pounds for men) welcomed me back on Thursday. What? 7-5 snatches in a row? Ugh. The snatch, in case you were wondering, is one of two Olympic weight lifting moves.
It’s very technical so if you miss a step you could be in for some hurt. Basically you take the barbell from the floor to an overhead position in a single motion with all out explosive speed. This requires A LOT of coordination and stability.
It is supposed to look like this. I admit my technique is a little on the so-so side. But I have improved a lot since I started (Thanks Wade). I got through the WOD at RX at a bustling 10:51 for time (not quite the bottom of the white board. I’m not sure you could call the last few reps an actual “snatch.” I just wanted to get the damn barbell over my head! Ha ha.
My plan going forward is to go to Crossfit 3x a week (and mobility classes). I signed my life away (ha) with a one-year contract. It was the cheapest option at $126 paid monthly. Otherwise if I signed up for either month to month or for a 6-month deal, it would be significantly higher. I am all about saving money and getting the best deal!
I am really excited about setting new strength goals and finally getting that unassisted pull up!
