Attacking hills

I knew on Thursday that I wanted to do some hill repeats this week. Not sure how this got into my noggin. All I know is that I wanted to run up and down a hill multiple times. I mentioned to Brent that night. I considered running this big ass hill near my place on Saturday morning. But the more I looked at the weather for the weekend, I decided I had better find those hills sooner than later.

I texted Brent to say there was a change a plans. I would do the repeats directly after work on Friday. This way I could sleep in somewhat on Saturday and maybe take a rest day. Brent was on board. He hasn’t done hills for a long time either.

We made plans to meet Sona, Brent’s wife, at a coffee shop near the hill before the three of us went to Chopped Leaf for dinner. Our plan was to run a few kilometres for a warm up. It usually takes me a good 20-25 minutes to get into the groove especially after sitting on my butt all day at work. We ran over this little bridge where we stopped to take a few pictures! I’m afraid we’re not that adventurous when it comes to picture taking.

My training plan (which I am successfully only half following) does not call for any strength or hill training. I don’t know what it is but I absolutely love hill repeats. We picked the smaller of two hills to attack. I wanted to do at least 10 repeats because I wanted to feel the good hurt on my legs. We felt awesome! Brent did a lot of stretching between repeats. I was too focused so I waited until I got home to undue the damage.

Great way to kick off my weekend!

What did you do on Friday night?

  1. I fully understand your love of hill repeats! Did them only a couple of times last summer and now am waiting for all of the ice to disappear, so that I can go "full out" (sorta). I love the idea of being able to say "Yay, I'm at the top!" anywhere from six to ten times in a row! It also occurred to me that the "Danger-Thin Ice" sign would likely be a good one for spouses to carry around occasionally…lol!

  2. How is Chopped Leaf? I still need to try it out.
