Red Deer’s Public Market is the only place to be in Saturdays. Everybody & anybody usually makes a stop to pick up some fresh produce, take a walk about or chat with friends. I met Anne Marie for a walk about. She knows everyone so we didn’t get too far without having to stop and chat with someone.
The market wasn’t that busy when I first arrived but it sure did pick up. Usually I get my potatoes, carrots or whatever here. Since I shopped last week I didn’t need to pick up anything. It’s just great to be soaking in the atmosphere.
We bumped into the fabulous Liz at the market. Great to see so many people out and about visiting and shopping. I miss living in a place where there’s a year round market. So in the meantime I have to make do. There’s so many reasons why one should shop at a farmers’ market or public market in this case.
4 Reasons to Shop at Farmers Markets:
1) Food tastes better because it is usually grown locally with less or no chemicals.
2) Know where your food grows. When I was in Korea, I always bought food on the street and at the markets from locals.
3) Support a farmer and the local economy.
4) Save the earth & feel good about what you consume. Flip the bird to mass production of food & the inhumane treatment of slaughtered animals.
