I confess I have a slight sneaker addiction. But it’s an addiction out of necessity. I promise. (Please ignore my previous post about breaking bad habits). I assure you this is not a bad thing (well maybe to the bottom line of my monthly budget).
Let me backtrack to the day of purchase – Saturday. It all started with a $25 off coupon from the Tech Shop. The coupon was attached to my Spartan race bid. I’ve been meaning to go to the store for months to find a running hydration vest. Since I was in Calgary, I thought I might as well check out the stock. Besides it was only a few kilometres away from the race site. What harm would a little look see do?
Two shopping bags and $216 later, I have a pair of Mizunos Enigma 2 and New Balance Minimus in the backseat of the Versa. I couldn’t resist. The sales were so GOOD. I didn’t even have to use my coupon. I really, really needed a new pair of regular sneakers for my marathon training. My minimalist shoes do not cut it for running longer than 10k. I don’t have the time to build up distance (or the patience). I swear that’s the reason why my right leg seems to be out of whack.
I did resist buying a new Garmin. (I desperately need a new watch. Having a Garmin would have come in handy tonight while I did some speedwork tonight.) The Enigma fit great. I’ve run in them twice on pavement. I’m happy with my Saucony for trail running so I will likely just take my NB out for a spin on the weekend. No more minimalist on pavement for me. I need to follow my own advice and take care of my feet and my body.
Happy Monday.
