Training to Qualify for Boston

Audrey and I had a good chat about our training. As you know, we’re both attempting to hit the qualifying times for Boston in December. I have to run at least 3:45 and Audrey has to run 3:55 But the faster the time, the better odds for making the field.

Audrey and I pose with our medals from the New York City Marathon in 2011.

It’s not going to be an easy go for both of us. We have only have six months to whip our bodies in shape to run faster, a lot faster. I know it seems like a long time but it’s not. On my end, I have work commitments and new found love of Crossfit, neither of which I can give up. Balancing everything will be a challenge. Audrey, on the other hand, has more commitments – family, life and her active social schedule.

We both have our work cut out for us but we are determined to make it to Boston!

There’s TOO MUCH information out on the keys to success. I am completely overwhelmed with  the numerous marathon training plans out there. Although I believe the teachings of CrossFit endurance, I am not confident enough in myself to give up the long runs. We know the key to run faster is to run faster.

With all that being said, I am pretty excited about the challenge. I only wish Audrey lived in the same city so we could encourage and motivate one another. For now I will have do make due with phone calls and texting.

I am still feeling the residual effects of my 50K. So I am still easing into my training. I hope to be going strong again by July.

Wish me luck!
