Megan and I went back to the 1950s for brunch. Who would have thought there’s this cool little dinky diner in West Park? Mind you I have been to this part of Red Deer so everything there was new.
Megan met me at Ignite after I finished some one-on-one time with the rower and barbell. We couldn’t decide until she had a brain wave – Hubie’s. I’ve never heard about this place. I thought the Burger Barn on my street was the only retro diner in town. Megan had eaten here a few years ago.

A man outside the diner told us the food is not as good as it used to be. We braced ourselves and went in anyway. Megan had some sort of bacon and egg deal with homefries on the side. I played it safe and ate a huge plate of pancakes. (Not exactly healthy … but I’m okay with it!) Oh yes, coffee and lots of it!
I should have taken more pictures. It was a really cool place. It had one of those everyone knows your name type of feel. Elvis and Marilyn Monroe memorabilia adorned the walls. There was a jukebox in each booth (that apparently no longer worked. Our friend outside in the parking lot warned us)
There was the typical greasy diner stuff on the menu. It was a nice change from the pricey restaurants with bad service in town. Our server was pretty friendly and down to earth. Prices were reasonable. Next time I’m sitting on a stool and having an old-fashioned float!
