Why running? It seemed I enjoyed every other form of activity EXCEPT running. I assumed that I would find it boring as I had the first time I tried it, but decided to give it another shot. I started running outside from my apartment building increasing my distance a little bit each time – next thing I knew I was hooked. It felt so good! I set new distance goals with each run, worked on my speed, and have been loving it ever since.
What motivates me to run? PURE ENJOYMENT. Running helps me focus, think, and give me that “me” time that I need in my busy life.

Proudest Running moment? My proudest running moment was completing my very first running race at the Nordic Ski Trails. It was part of the Wolves X-Country Running series. Instead of registering for the 5km, I decided to push myself out of the comfort zone and register for the 8km. I did find it very tough – it was a warm day in the trails and I was overdressed, but I was so proud to have completed the 8km, I was smiling from ear to ear when I crossed the finish. My very first race. Again, I was hooked!

Advice for new runners: Gradual progression. Keep longevity in mind at all times. You want to stay healthy and active for as long as possible during your lifetime, so take care of your body NOW. Ensure you are cross-training with your running and always, always, STRETCH your muscles after all completed workouts while the muscles are warm.

Karen and her hubby, Dan were my running coaches when I started running in 2009. They helped me see the running light because I too hated running. We’ve remained friends and running pals.
