Return to Run: 28 days after my last marathon

Happy Sunday. What a beautiful day!

We observed Daylight savings this morning at 2 a.m. so I got an extra hour of sleep. I love sleep. I was refreshed and ready to go.

It’s been 28 days since I last laced up my sneakers for a proper run. Since my legs no longer scream bloody murder, I know it’s time to get back into the run of things.

I needed back up. I drove to the Running Room to meet up with some runners. Karen and Tara couldn’t make it. I knew Sona, Brent and John would be there. Nice to see familiar running faces. A quick 6k was in order.

I made sure to do some dynamic stretching before I left my apartment. I wanted to start off on the right foot so to speak. Preventive measures.

It was -2 C. The paths were slightly icy with a little snow. It wasn’t impossible to run. I just jumped on the road when the pathways were too slick. I stayed back the slower pace group because I did not want to push myself too much.

I felt great. I really missed running. Thrilled that I am able to get back to it so quickly. Some people are out for a year or longer with plantar fascia. (Knock on wood). I am not completely healed. The bottom of my right foot was aching and my calves felt tight. Must take it slow or I will have my feet up even longer.
Post-run coffee was at Big Ben followed by more coffee at Second Cup. Coffee and running are a perfect pair! Great to catch up with old running friends too. Very pumped to see Sona and Brent still running! Great morning! I stretching and rolled out on the lacrosse ball immediately when I got home. Calves feel much better. Can’t wait to run again.
